Media Release - Earthquake Felt in Guilford County

(Greensboro, North Carolina)-   The USGS has confirmed an earthquake in of 5.9 Centered near Louisa, Virginia.


Currently we have received no reports of Damage in Guilford County and all emergency response systems are operational.


Please do not call 911 unless you have an actual emergency and do not make unnecessary telephone calls to ensure that phone lines are available for emergency situations.


Currently there is no need to evacuate any structures or areas within Guilford County.


Any damage reports can be called into Guilford County Emergency Management at 336-641-2278.

Never Leave a Child Alone in a Car… Even For a Minute!

Ever notice how your car can be nice and warm even on a cool day? But that cozy sun can quickly turn deadly for kids. Children’s small bodies heat up 3 - 5 times faster than an adult’s. Every year, children die from overheating in cars. A third of these deaths were children who were playing and got trapped in unattended cars. Be sure to lock your cars at all times – especially at home. And teach children to never play in parked vehicles. 

 
Hurricane Preparedness Week - May 22 - 28, 2011
History teaches that a lack of hurricane awareness and preparation are common threads among all major hurricane disasters. By knowing your vulnerability and what actions you should take, you can reduce the effects of a hurricane disaster. Hurricane Preparedness Week during 2011 will be held May 22nd through May 28th.
