GUILFORD COUNTY PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE URGES RESIDENTS TO PREPARE FOR EMERGENCIES DURING FIFTH ANNUAL NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH

GUILFORD COUNTY, NC – The Guilford County Preparedness Committee is participating in the fifth annual National Preparedness Month (NPM) in September with support from partner agencies across the County.  Preparedness Committee members will combine efforts throughout the month of September to encourage all county residents to take steps to prepare for emergencies before they happen.

“National Preparedness Month provides an important opportunity for Guilford County residents to prepare for emergencies,” said Preparedness Committee member Stephen Marks. “Many emergencies can occur with little or no warning, so being prepared is critical. The recent episode of flash flooding and severe weather reinforces the importance of emergency preparedness.”

The Guilford County Preparedness Committee is encouraging everyone to take important preparedness steps that will greatly improve their ability to survive and recover from all types of emergencies, whether natural or man-made.  These steps include getting an emergency supply kit, making a family emergency plan, becoming informed about the different emergencies that may affect them, and getting involved in community preparedness and response efforts.

Preparing for emergencies can seem like an overwhelming task. To assist residents with their preparedness efforts, the Guilford County Preparedness Committee has developed a website with a variety of information and tips. The site www.ReadyGuilford.com provides a wealth of materials and outlines a simple step-by-step approach which makes it easy for everyone to be prepared.

During National Preparedness Month, please take the opportunity to develop and/or review your preparedness plans. For additional information, please contact Guilford County Emergency Management at (336) 641-2278.
