NFPA 1403

Remember, the State does not recognize 1403 as a certification, but as a qualification.   Therefore, you will not receive anything from the State saying you have completed 1403.   However, the classes that you take for 1403 are part of your FFI&II certification, and should be recorded as such in Raleigh.

Also remember that there are technically two parts to most classes, the FFI section and the FFII section.   The only requirement for 1403 is that you take the FFI part of the class.   You should check with your instructor to determine if you are receiving the first section or both.
(There is certainly no harm in getting both parts of the class while you're at it!)

Here are the requirements as listed in the January 31, 2002 version of NFPA 1403...

  • Safety
  • Ladders
  • Overhaul
  • Ventilation
  • Fire Behavior
  • Forcible Entry
  • Water Supplies
  • Portable Extinguishers
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Fire Hose, Appliances, & Streams

These classes which you have taken as part of the 1403 qualification are part of your North Carolina  Firefighter I&II certification, and these transcripts should be sent to the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) to be placed in your file.
