ImageThe Guilford Association of SCUBA Personnel aka GASP, Inc.  was chartered on October 29th, 1985. GASP, Inc. is a Team of water rescue professionals dedicated to serving the citizens of Guilford County by providing a resource for water rescue. The Team consists of dedicated members of the emergency public service agencies located within Guilford County who volunteer their time to assure that the citizens of Guilford County have a highly trained professional water rescue team available to provide a rapid response at any time of the day or night within Guilford County.  Operations include, but are not restricted to, near drowning, diving accidents, underwater search and recovery tasks involving victims, swift water rescue, rescue assistance, or any other water-related operation approved by the Officer-in-charge. The locations of operations shall include all areas within Guilford County, North Carolina, and when requested, mutual aid will be given to agencies outside Guilford County, at the discretion of the Officer-in-charge. The organization, its policies and its procedures are designed to fulfill the above requirements while minimizing the risk of accidental injury or illness to personnel.
GASP HISTORY

GASP, Inc., in its 25th year, is an all-volunteer water rescue team. The GASP Team has grown to 20 members.  The team is dispatched through Guilford Metro 911 and responds annually to dozens of water rescue calls. Team members belong to, or have been associated with Guilford County Emergency Services & Emergency Medical Services, Guilford County Fire, Greensboro and High Point City Fire, Greensboro and High Point Police and Guilford County Sheriff's Departments. All members are required to obtain a Rescue Diver's certification. Membership is gained by application to the dive team. The Team prides itself in being one of the best equipped teams on the East Coast. At present, GASP is equipped with a Quick Response 4WD Vehicle currently stationed at Pleasant Garden St. #3, a large truck for extended calls complete with Cascade Air System capable of filling SCUBA bottles, a 15ft. inflatable Zodiac boat with a 35hp pump-jet outboard motor, a 14 ft Jon boat with 15Hp OB, and a 12 foot Swift Water Inflatable. In addition, the Team is dry and wet suit capable, surface supplied air capable, and uses a state-of-the-art underwater communication system that permits wireless two-way communication from diver to shore and from diver to diver.
